Swim Lessons for all City of Tonawanda Residents & Non-Residents open to Youth

Registration Information-
All participants MUST have a Recreation Pass & if your little swimmer is 4 or under, the guardian must purchase a pass. Please contact the office with any questions, 716-692-7029

How to make a payment- 

Payment can be made online with registration with credit/bank card (3% convenience fee paid to Government Portal)
OR
with a cash or check payable to "City of Tonawanda", mailed to 291 Kohler Street
OR
dropped off (pay attention to location as our office will be moving to Kohler as Summer approaches); 
~present - June 21st, 35 Main Street (Senior Center), 2:30 - 4:00pm
*If times do not work for you, please call 716-692-7029 to set up an appointment
FROM 6/30-8/22, please come to Kohler from 12:30 - 3:30pm to drop off payments

Program Information- 
~ Swimming Lessons ~ 
Please only register for one level per participant

Parent Toddler Lessons- Offered on Tuesdays & Thursdays mornings and Tuesday evenings only. Children up to age 4 are welcome to become acquainted with the water alongside a parent or responsible adult.
*Parents/Guardians will be the party that registers for this activity. 


Level 1
- Introduction to Water Skills- NON-SWIMMERS
Helps participants feel comfortable in the water where basic aquatic skills and safe water practices are taught. Participants will have hands on instructor support when needed. *If your Level 1 swimmer is under 5 years, the Parent/Guardian will need to purchase an Adult Rec Pass, if your swimmer is 5+, please make sure to purchase a Youth Rec Pass for your Level 1 swimmer.


Level 2Fundamental Aquatic Skills- Can stay "afloat" independently
Participants build on basic aquatic/water safety skills learned from Level 1. 
Participants in this level may enter using minimal support from the instructor, but may not graduate until they can swim independently. Must have passed Level 1 or met lesson prerequisites before starting Level 2

Level 3- Stroke Development
Help participants achieve basic water competency in the pool where they learn front crawl, elementary backstroke, and multiple different kicks. 
Must have passed Level 2 or met lesson prerequisites before starting Level 3

Level 4
- Stroke Improvement
Participants start to develop confidence in the strokes, improve their strokes, other aquatic skills, and endurance. 
Must have passed Level 3 or met lesson prerequisites before starting Level 4


~ Swim Instruction for Level 5 & up ~ 
Junior Olympic Swim Team- 
Our Tonawanda Typhoon Swim Team will practice Monday through Thursday from 11am - 11:50am from July 7th-August 14th. The Team will work to develop their skills the water with our veteran Tonawanda Swim Team instructors. They will also compete in our City of Tonawanda Swim Meet. 
Must have passed Level 4 or met lesson prerequisites before starting J.O's

Beginner Lifeguarding-
This is a 5-week long class for youth ages 10-15 years who can swim at least one length of the pool and can tread water. Participants will learn basic pool safety and lifesaving skills. This class is designed to give students a working knowledge of lifesaving and first aid, but does not include any certifications. 
Must have passed Level 4 or met lesson prerequisites before taking Beginner Life guarding
